Experiencing muffled hearing or discomfort due to excess earwax?
At Coleshill Pharmacy & Travel Clinic, our professional Ear Wax Microsuction service offers a safe, gentle, and effective solution to help you hear clearly again.
What is Microsuction?
Microsuction is a modern and highly effective technique for removing built-up earwax. At Coleshill Pharmacy & Travel Clinic, our trained pharmacists carry out this procedure using specialist equipment designed to clear wax safely and comfortably.
We choose microsuction because it is widely recognised as the safest method of earwax removal.
Unlike ear syringing—which uses water pressure and can sometimes lead to complications such as infection or even eardrum perforation—microsuction offers precise and controlled wax removal.
For your safety, we do not offer ear syringing at Coleshill Pharmacy & Travel Clinic.
What to Expect During Your Appointment
Your microsuction appointment will take around 20 minutes and includes:
- A brief discussion about your ear health and symptoms
- A detailed examination of your ear canals and eardrums using an otoscope
- A clear explanation of the procedure and equipment
- Your consent before any treatment begins
- Gentle removal of earwax using a fine suction tube
- A final check of your ear health after the procedure
If we are unable to remove all the wax during your visit, we will advise you on the next steps and you will not be charged extra.
How to Prepare for Your Appointment
To ensure the procedure is as comfortable and effective as possible, please soften the wax beforehand:
- Use olive oil in the affected ear(s) 2–3 times daily
- Continue for at least five days before your visit
- Use enough oil for it to overflow slightly
- Leave the oil in your ear for a minimum of five minutes
This helps loosen the wax, making it easier to remove safely.
