About Infected insect bite

An infected insect bite assessment is a safe and simple way to check and manage bites. Our trained professionals examine the affected area carefully, provide expert guidance, and advise on the best next steps to help reduce infection and promote healing.

Concerned about a painful or swollen insect bite?
At Coleshill Pharmacy & Travel Clinic, our Infected Insect Bite Assessment service offers a quick, safe, and convenient way to check your symptoms and get expert guidance on the best next steps.

What is an Infected Insect Bite Assessment?

An assessment helps identify whether your insect bite may be infected. At Coleshill Pharmacy & Travel Clinic, our trained team examines the affected area, reviews your symptoms, and provides professional advice. While we do not diagnose conditions, we can advise whether medical attention is needed and suggest safe, appropriate care.

Why Early Assessment Matters

Infected bites can worsen quickly if not managed. Early assessment can help identify issues such as:

  • Redness, swelling, or warmth around the bite
  • Pus or fluid discharge
  • Pain or tenderness
  • Spreading redness or streaks
  • Fever or general unwellness

Our service provides clear guidance so you can take the right steps to prevent complications.

What to Expect During Your Appointment

Your appointment will take around 10–15 minutes and includes:

  • A brief discussion about the bite, symptoms, and recent insect exposure
  • A careful visual examination of the affected area
  • Advice on appropriate over-the-counter care or self-treatment
  • Guidance on when to seek GP or specialist care
  • Answers to any questions you may have

If the bite shows signs of serious infection, we will advise prompt referral to a healthcare professional.

How to Prepare for Your Appointment

To help us assess your bite effectively, please:

  • Avoid applying creams or ointments unless already prescribed
  • Keep the area uncovered if possible
  • Make a note of when the bite occurred and how it has changed
  • Avoid scratching or touching the bite

These steps help ensure we can examine it clearly.

Before Your Visit

Please let Coleshill Pharmacy & Travel Clinic know if any of the following apply:

  • You have fever, chills, or feel generally unwell
  • The bite is rapidly spreading or extremely painful
  • There is pus or other discharge
  • You have multiple bites with signs of infection
  • You have allergies or history of severe reactions to insect bites
  • You are pregnant or on immune-affecting medication

If you’re unsure whether your bite needs assessment, we’re happy to offer guidance and help you decide.
